The Road Hammers started in 2004 as a musical side project of acclaimed Canadian country singer Jason McCoy, but soon grew into a surprisingly successful band in it’s own right. The band was initially formed for the first season of Country Music Television Canada’s show Making The Band, with front man Jason McCoy enlisting guitarist Clayton Bellamy, drummer Corbett Frasz, and bassist Chris Byrne as his backing members. The group was initially conceived as less of a country group and more of a southern rock group, evoking the sound of classic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tom Petty.

The group is notable for its emphasis on driving and its fascination with 1970’s era trucker music; a “road hammer” is an old nickname for a trucker - the kind of guy who hits the road day in and day out. Based on the success of the first season of their television show, The Road Hammers released their first self titled album in 2005 in Canada on major Toronto label Open Road Recordings. The Road Hammers spawned 4 top 10 singles in Canada, including blues-laced trucker anthem "I’m A Road Hammer" and their upbeat, almost raplike cover of Del Reeves’s 1965 hit "Girl On the Billboard".

After wrapping up the second season of their popular Canadian musical reality show and receiving the Juno Award for Country Recording Artist of The Year in 2006, The Road Hammers are gearing up for the release of their next album Blood, Sweat, and Steel in mid 2008. The album’s lead single, "I Don’t Know When to Quit" recently hit the airwaves, making the charts in the United States as well as Canada.
